Background:
Reporting to the Vice President of Process Development, the Sr. Director
of Process Development Business Support is charged with providing the
necessary leadership, strategic vision, tactical execution, and business
acumen to support the key business needs of the entire PD organization,
including at the interfaces with key stakeholders in Research,
Development, PROP and RQC.
The Sr. Director of PD Business Support will lead four pre-existing
diverse functions that comprise of PD Project Management and
Documentation, PD Business Services, Training & Post Doc Program
Management, and Strategic Planning and Administration. In this role, the
successful candidate will work with his/her direct reports to transform
and integrate the team activities in order to provide the critical
services needed by Process Development and other internal Genentech
customers now and in the future.
Additionally, he/she will be a member of the Process Development senior
leadership team and as such will work collaboratively as part of a team
to establish priorities and direction for the PD organization to meet
its business needs. The successful candidate will be a key
organizational change agent delivering business results focused on
improving the efficiency, communications and systems for planning, and
prioiritization of development CMC and PD initiatives/projects.
Duties:
•Ensure that reporting departments work with other PD groups to
establish and then maintain (if appropriate) business processes that
will support Process Development, PROP and GNE goals
•Assess, define and then develop what is needed to ensure successful
management of development CMC projects and other PD initiatives
including capabilities for portfolio management.
•Facilitate progress on Process Development IT roadmap, and subsequent
plans and execution to achieve the desired future state.
•Ensure achievement of organizational objectives by defining metrics,
measuring and facilitating a process of continuous improvement
•Partner with Finance, HR and leadership team to establish the
workforce, capital and space needs plan for Process Development.
•Provide leadership in the continued development of training programs
for Process Development employees
•Actively participates in the Process Development leadership team.
•Establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relations with
internal/external organizations
•Fosters an environment which advances staff through effective coaching,
and professional development
Qualifications:
•Undergraduate degree in life sciences/engineering required, advanced
degree(s) in life sciences/engineering preferred
•MBA degree preferred
•12+ years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, including 7 or
more years of senior level management experience required
•Demonstrated leadership success in both functional and people
management
•Demonstrated ability to drive for results and lead innovation and
change
•Excellent leadership skills and the ability to build, transform and
motivate a team. Strong track record of mentoring leaders through
employee development.
•Previous experience in drug development highly desired.
•Demonstrated command of tools and techniques of formal process
improvement methodologies (Operational Excellence, Class A)
•Develops and oversees business plans that include attention to
resources needed (e.g., budget, headcount) to accomplish goals.
Demonstrates financial and business acumen
•Solicits and incorporates input on key business plans from major
stakeholders to achieve alignment
•Ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the
organization both internal and external to Genentech, Inc.
•Demonstrated success in business process/system development, influence
management, collaboration and change management.
•Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, collaboration
and presentation skills
